Topics covered during my Masters in International business

with 12 comments

This blog entry is more on the personal front as a lot of readers of my personal blog ask me about the topics covered during my EMIB course at IIFT (http://www.iift.edu) so thought this might come in handy for someone looking to do a Masters in India or abroad in this specialized field.

So, I thought there should at least be one blog entry that summarizes what were the topics and how I fared in the same to gauge my own competancy in commenting about the topics chosen:

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF FOREIGN TRADE, NEW DELHI, A DEEMED UNIVERSITY

1st trimester

Business Economics
Marketing management
Business research methods
Management information systems
Managerial accounting
Global business environment
Human resource management

2nd trimester

Financial management
International brand management
International marketing research
Business strategy
WTO&IFTP
Trade documentation and logistics

3rd trimester

International financial management
Project appraisal and finance
International business strategy
Supply chain management
End term research project – A critical analysis of General Motor’s pricing strategy in North America

I scored a CGPA of 3.63 and stood in the top 10% of the class of 120 International managers in my class of peers where the average work experience was 10-years.

Here’s some quick tit-bit for passive reading that I just managed to coin (this has nothing to do with self-praise or patting myself on the back -its more of a fact of the prestigious institute from where I did this course):

I can say I stood in the top 10% of my class in a course (EMIB) that ranks among the top 10% of all the courses conducted by the institute in a course that is among the 10% of all courses conducted by similar B-schools (among the competing courses conducted by the other B-schools) across the country from a B-school (IIFT) that ranks among the top 10 (out of a total 1000 B-schools) in the country!

  4. Bharat,

    Thank you for your question.

You would need to look at institutes that are of sufficient repute while you consider doing a Masters in IB overseas. I personally remember having done a lot of due diligence before arriving at IIFT, New Delhi for multiple reasons – cost-benefit, cost of education, opportunity cost etc. It was the best possible alternative to me at that time (2004).

My areas of R&D for institutes of repute were in the following countries:
    1. USA
    2. UK
    3. Australia
    4. France

I even wrote my GMAT etc. in 2003 to qualify for the same.

Some good B-schools I can think of (not necessarily teaching MIB) are:

    Wharton school of business
    Harvard
NYU-Stern (these people even have a Langone program which is like a part-time program).

What you need to note is that getting full fee waiver is quite a difficult task at most of these institutes/countries.

Ask yourself a very realistic question: Can I fund my 2-year MBA program of almost Rs. 60-70 lacs with bank loans, family funds? Your answer to this would automatically entail you to make a good decision that is rational and pragmatic.

In Australia, you have schools such as Monash GSB (graduate school of business) in Victoria etc.

In France, I have a peer whose hubby did his MBA from the famous INSEAD school of business and HEC school of business.

London business school has a major in IB as one of my peers had R&D’ed during his stay at London.

I recommend you visit the following websites to get a better idea on your requirements:
    1. http://www.businessweek.com
    2. http://www.gmac.com/gmac/thegmat/
    3. http://www.mba.com

There is a whole section dedicated to B-schools and specialized subjects there.

    Hope this helps!

  11. Firstly, let us consider what these free casino chips are really worth to the individual online casino player. Free casino chips are of four main types:

    2. He emailed us and made sure that bonuses applied at other CWC platforms did not deny him a bonus at onlinecasinos5.com. In the case of other casinos, you have to be careful because there are “sister” casino sites that operate under the same business platform. When this is the case, you may not be eligible for the bonus if you were granted a bonus on their other “sister” casino site. Always email their customer service department. They will tell you. If they don’t then don’t play there. Also, if their customer service takes too long to get with you then don’t play there. Acceptable waiting times vary between individual. In my case I’m not willing to wait more that 24 hours for customer service to get back with me. In the case of onlinecasinos5.com you are eligible for ALL of our bonuses regardless if you currently are a player at another CWC Gaming based casinos. Many CWC based casinos are taking different stands on if they allow US players to gamble on their sites. You will have to check with each one yourself.

    – Understand the set-up of the game on the site you’re visiting. Make sure you know what you’re clicking and why. It can be very confusing with all the bells and whistles and buttons flashing at you. Know the function of anything you click. If you cannot navigate your way around the game properly, use support tools the site may offer.

    Beginner’s Route to Online Casinos
The online casinos are a great source of entertainment and fun. That said, there are a number of things you should take into consideration before playing. Choosing the right casino should be your first step in your quest for a great gaming experience online. As such, choosing the right casino will lead you to have a lot of fun and also win at the same time. If you find yourself with a pathetic online casino, you are bound to run into a lot of problems with poor graphics low-wage outs.

One method to check the reliability of online casinos is to check the software vendor from whom they have leased their games. Currently, the casino software developers in the market who are reputed to produce ethical and quality casino software are Microgaming, Realtime Gaming, Playtech and CryptoLogic Inc.
