A flat world?

leave a comment »

In line with the punchline of this blog, we need to speak a little bit about Globalization and why it has become so critical.

I found an article on the flat world at the MIT open courseware. A link to the same can be found on the same MIT world website.

Its a lecture by Thomas Friedman –

His book – the world is flat illustrates how the turn of the millenium, the emergence of the dot com boom and the laying of the huge undersea fiber optic cables all across the world has flattened the world and made it a level playing field as Friedman quotes Nandan Nilekani – President and CEO of Infosys Technologies (Nasdaq: INFY).

I think its a wonderful concept although there is more to this. A description of this can also be found at

I still believe product/service customization and adaptation is crucial to succeed in each specific geography but his point is basically the concept of globalization and how it has changed with the way countries such as India and China compete on a level playing field in the world. This is a pertinent point and worth a lot of arguments.
