Direct from DELL

Michael Dell - founder of DELL Computer Corp.Courtesy of Dell Inc.

I am currently reading up on the book – Direct from DELL written by none other than the legendary founder of DELL Computer Corporation (NASD: DELL).

DELL is a pioneer in the direct model where middlemen are effectively eliminated allowing the business to speak directly to the customer and vice versa. We had so many courses on SCM in our MIB course on the DELL way of doing business as also in our MIS class. We have gone through plenty of case studies on the same model!

This concept threw the supply chain management world into a tizzy when it took shape a couple of decades ago when DELL was born.

Advantages of the direct model are there for all to see – the cost savings are passed onto the customers, customers prefer what they want and order on demand.

I personally have purchased both my notebook (an Inspiron 6000 that I sold about 6 months ago for a very good price) and my yet to be acquired DELL Vostro desktop system using this direct model and I must say, I am impressed with this revolutionary business model.

DELL ( is a pioneer in this field and competes fiercely with Hewlett Packard-Compaq (NYSE: HPQ) in the PC makers space.

The book is very enthralling and once you pick it up, you can’t keep it down – its so engrossing and scintillating to see Michael DELL’s ( revolutionary concepts turn the supply chain so efficient with optimal productivity!

Way to go, DELL. I am impressed by what I have seen so far!

DELL has its own blog –
